There is good news for Phoenix business owners who want to position their businesses to gain access to capital. The city of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department Small Business Division (SBD) and the Phoenix Community Development and Investment Corporation (PCDIC) are accepting applications to the “Access to Capital Academy.”
The “Access to Capital Academy” is a comprehensive six-month program providing education to minority, women and small-business entrepreneurs (MWSBE) that will develop and strengthen their loan package.
Businesses assisted must be located in the New Market Tax Credit census tract. A group of 20 to 40 businesses will be selected to participate. Participants will meet a minimum of three hours every two weeks for classes and lab work. The curriculum includes writing a business plan, personal credit, developing financial statements, bookkeeping basics, market analysis, forecasting, loan packaging and more.
The SBD was awarded a grant from the PCDIC, a nonprofit corporation, to implement the program that was accredited by Phoenix College.
Upon successful completion of the program, business owners will receive three college credits. The deadline to apply to the “Access to Capital Academy” is Feb. 28, 2010 with courses set to begin in March 2010. The cost for the six-month course is $150, which includes the text book, coaching and consultant services.
